Video Series: Nurturing a culturally and linguistically responsive environment

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) is working continuously to respond to the situation in Ukraine. Migration is not new to Ireland. But there is an increase in migrant refugee children coming from Ukraine, which has created a more urgent need for educators to understand how to enhance certain aspects of our practice.

With the DCEDIY, Early Childhood Ireland and Mother Tongues are working to help you to support children and their families. We have developed resources to help you explore how to nurture a culturally and linguistically responsive environment. To learn more, you will soon be able to watch a 3-part series of related videos on the Early Childhood Ireland YouTube channel.

The videos will be available from Monday, 1 August. You can watch them at your own pace and in your own time. Questions and comments on the videos are welcome until Friday, 30 September, when we will respond so we can all learn and share knowledge.

In October, Early Childhood Ireland and Mother Tongues will host three live workshops online. It will be a space for educators to discuss the ‘nurturing a culturally and linguistically responsive environment’ video series.

Please note: Registration for the online workshops will open in September and the criteria for attendance is that you must have viewed the video series in full to take part.
