About National Pyjama Day

National Pyjama Day is one of the most exciting dates in our members’ diaries each year and is eagerly anticipated by children, families, and settings alike.

Over 65,000 children at 1,300 settings across Ireland participate each year, raising funds to support important projects and charities that support children.

National Pyjama Day has always been more than just cosy pjs and having fun – at its heart, it’s really about children helping children.

As well as supporting autism charity AsIAm, the funds raised this year will help develop a new project for our members called ‘Eco-Emotions – supporting self-care, communities and our environment’.

This programme has been created in line with feedback from educators in settings who requested more tools to better support children’s emotional wellbeing. The programme will support our youngest citizens to care for themselves, their communities and our environment.

Early Childhood Ireland is developing a new CPD programme for members and staff. It will include specialised training, guidance, tools, resources and shared experiences to support our members and their educators to seamlessly embed the principles of self-regulation, therapeutic play and caring for the environment into their practice.

Work will begin in 2024 and will include the development of an evidence-based approach and a pilot stage before the programme is fully implemented. It will be delivered using a blended approach of both face-to-face and online events.

This project will benefit members, their staff, children and their families. It also aligns with Early Childhood Ireland’s commitment to Quality for Children.

The funds raised for AsIAm will contribute to its Child and Family Support Programme. It will directly provide group-based support to autistic children and family members, whilst building the capacity of families to engage with support services and advocate for the critical support they require.

Why register for National Pyjama Day?

National Pyjama Day is a unique occasion that celebrates ‘Children helping children and having fun’. All over the country, children and staff don their favourite PJs and take part in storytelling, pillow fights, bear hunts, PJ picnics, and many more fun activities during the day. Importantly, these activities are also an opportunity for settings to highlight the play-based, child-centred Early Years curriculum which underpins practice and nurtures children at this vital time in their young lives.
