Making Community Childcare Work

Making Community Childcare Work

Early Childhood Ireland recognise that there are some governance issues arising within the community childcare segment, this is based on feedback from members and the recent closures in the sector.

Good practice around governance is key to an open transparent smooth running setting however many members struggle to:

  • recruit board members
  • make business decisions to improve the sustainability of their settings
  • implement strong governance practices within existing boards of management.

Early Childhood Ireland is running this one day event to support community childcare members.  Governance expert, Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel, will open the event and set the scene by examining governance code and the key areas to be considered in operating good governance.  Then a number of speakers will present on their particular business models, focusing on innovations that work, outlining key learning.  There will be an interactive session with presenters.

The overall aim of the seminar is to support community childcare members by strengthening their skills in governance and sustainability and by creating a forum for discussion to discover the many ways that community childcare can work.
