Garda Vetting update 29 March 2022
Garda Vetting update 11 july 22

Garda Vetting processing times are approximately ten working days from when the applicant completes the link sent to them by the National Vetting Bureau (NVB). It is important to follow up with the applicant after you receive the automated email with the ECI001-2022**** reference number for the Garda Vetting application, to make sure they have received the link from the NVB. Sometimes it may go to their junk mail.

If the applicant cannot find the link, please check their email address is correct and if it needs amending, please call us on 01 405 7102 to do this. Duplicate applications for one applicant can result in delays on the NVB system.

When applicants are filling out their link sent from the National Vetting bureau, they need to enter the city /county for each address and should enter Eircode’s where possible.
All applicants who have lived in Northern Ireland must enter a postcode for their Northern Ireland addresses or their application will be rejected immediately by the National Vetting Bureau.

If the applicant is having trouble with completing the application on their phone, please ask them to try completing it on a desktop.

Please note that around 20% of Garda Vetting applications will take longer due to further checks being carried out by the National Vetting Bureau and other agencies.

Tracking a Garda vetting application

You can track the Garda Vetting application by entering the applicant’s
ECI001-2022***  reference number and their date of birth into the National Vetting Bureau website. Make sure there are no spaces put in before or after the application ID number as it may not work.

Do international students need to be Garda vetted?

Yes, if you have international students (aged over 16 years) coming to your early learning and care or school-age childcare setting in Ireland, they will need to be vetted by the Irish National Vetting Bureau through YOU -the registered provider, using the usual procedure with Early Childhood Ireland. You will need to allow time to have their vetting organised before they can come into your setting i.e. start the process at least a month to 8 weeks beforehand. If the students are aged 16- 18 years their parent/guardian will have to fill out the specific Garda Vetting forms -a signed Parent/Guardian Consent Form along with Vetting Invitation Form (Under 18’s). The parent or guardian must supply their own email address and phone number on the form (not the child’s email address).

The international students will also need to send you a copy of their Police Clearance Certification for all international addresses that they have lived at for longer than 6 months (once they were over the age of 18 years) before they start their placement in your service.

If you have any queries regarding the Garda Vetting process please see our website
