CPL Overview

What is continuous professional learning? Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) incorporates training undertaken by early years educators aimed at supporting their ongoing development as early years professionals. Early Childhood Ireland provides training on all aspects of early childhood practice.

Why take part in continuous professional learning? Research suggests that engaging in continuous professional learning is a key element of being an effective educator. Educators will develop and refine their knowledge, skills and competencies. Our training provides content which is current, considers best practice and is relevant to early year’s educators.

CPL Programmes: Early Childhood Ireland provides a range of training events to facilitate CPL. Programme: Outdoor Showcase

Programme: Outdoor Showcase

An outdoor showcase involves a visit to an Early Years Setting where early childhood educators share their outdoor ideas, experiences, challenges and solutions

Whether you are a devoted outdoor enthusiast already or you are just thinking about how best to meet your Tusla and DES outdoor requirements, or you need some support in linking your outdoor provision with Aistear and Siolta principles this showcase has something for you. You will get to see and hear how your fellow educators implement their outdoor provision.

Early Years Providers will showcase elements of children’s work and play in the outdoors – from settings with very limited urban spaces to settings with extensive space and facilities. We can take some learning from them all and of course be infected with their enthusiasm and spirit. Carol Duffy, Early Childhood Ireland, will deliver a key note presentation.

Programme: Marte Meo – Supporting development in interaction moments

Programme: Marte Meo – Supporting development in interaction moments

We know that positive adult-child interactions are key to the provision of quality early childhood education – but what do good interactions look like in practice? How do our interactions with children in everyday practice benefit their learning and development? The Marte Meo programme clearly answers these questions and shows us exactly what positive interaction moments should look like and why they are so important to children’s development.

Using film of adults working with children from birth to 5 years, participants will be brought step by step through supportive daily interactions throughout the curriculum:
– in one to one conversations
– during free play
– when leading small and large groups

The Marte Meo approach supports all children but can be particularly beneficial for children who need extra support

It will be followed by subsequent programmes (i) focussing on Exploring, Assessing and Sharing Children’s Learning and (ii) Developing the Curriculum through the Arts (art, music, literature etc.) The programme is suitable for practitioners working with babies, toddlers and preschool children.
