Emotionally in-tune: strengthening  self-regulation in young children

Supporting a child to cope with their emotions is important for the development of self-regulation skills, nurturing their mental health, resilience, and sense of self. Well-being is based on the child being confident, happy and healthy. Self-regulation is essential for positive well-being. It is a skill for enabling the child to respond efficiently and effectively to everyday challenges. The relationships and interactions the child experiences with people and places contributes to their sense of well-being.

Warm, trusting and responsive relationships enable children to respond with appropriate emotions. This programme addresses well-being within the early years, exploring ‘new’ thinking regarding emotional development. We examine how supporting children in recognising their many emotions, is the first step in strengthening self-regulation. Participants will identify daily stressors and consider strategies to strengthen each child’s emotional well-being.
