Wash your hands with Rufus!

Wash your hands with Rufus!

safefood, in partnership with Early Childhood Ireland, has launched the next phase of their Rufus handwashing programme, which aims to make learning handwashing habits fun and help to keep germs, including Covid-19, at bay.

We understand that the present situation regarding Covid-19 is very concerning for all staff, parents, families and children. As early years professionals, you and your staff are uniquely placed to continue helping children in your care learn about the importance of good hand hygiene to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The best way to do this is with soap and water, but hand sanitisers are a reasonable option when you don’t have access to soap and water.

As an Early Childhood Ireland member, you will receive a new pack by post in the coming weeks.

This resource teaches young children about handwashing through story, song and behavioural feedback. It also includes a waterproof sink poster for children to take home to encourage the continuity of good handwashing habits at home. Many parents will want to display the poster at home as part of keeping their family and community safe and healthy.

Regular use of these resources will help children develop good hand hygiene over time, so ideally these should be used over and over again.

If you would like to request any additional Rufus/handwashing packs, please contact us at info@earlychildhoodireland.ie.

Thank you for your continued efforts to keep everyone safe and well.
