Early Childhood Ireland Insurance Update

Update on our Member Group Insurance Scheme 2020

December 13, 2019

By now members of the Group Insurance Scheme will have received correspondence from Arachas relating to Insurance 2020.

Again this year, we have worked with Allianz and Arachas to ensure that the Scheme  is correctly priced and therefore continues to offer valuable cover to our members.

This has meant that our members have had to carry increases in premiums in recent years. We have worked to keep these increases to a minimum while at the same time ensuring the sustainability of the scheme.

The Scheme has a better claims experience than the general sector and therefore the rates which apply to the scheme are approximately 30% lower than those currently available outside the Group Scheme.

The Scheme policy has the most comprehensive cover available in the market and has been designed so that our members have the protection and support that they need as they lead their staff to deliver the best outcomes for babies, children and families across the country.  In addition to standard cover it also includes Legal & HR Advice Cover and Business Interruption Cover.

The Scheme is underwritten by Allianz, a leading insurance company based in Ireland, who are committed to the wider educational sector in Ireland and together with the broker Arachas ensure that our members receive an effective and efficient service.

We understand the difficulties that the wider sector, including many of our members, is experiencing in relation to insurance. We cannot guarantee that all new applications for cover will be successful.  As with all insurance quotes, each request for cover will be assessed on an individual basis and there maybe situations where the Scheme cannot offer cover due to existing high levels of claims as this could jeopardise the future of the Scheme.

On behalf of our members who have not been part of the Early Childhood Ireland Member Group Insurance Scheme up until now, we have contacted the other main broker to seek clarity on what is happening on that scheme and to urge them to issue clarification urgently.

We have also been in contact with the Dr. Katherine Zappone TD, Minister for Children &Youth Affairs, Heather Humphries TD, Minister for Business, Enterprise & Innovation and the Competition & Consumer Protection Commission to raise the issues about insurance in our sector.

As always, we are advocating for our members in relation to all areas related to insurance. There are number of reforms that need to happen to support the sector in terms of allowing the schemes to be viable while at the same time ensuring that premiums are affordable for early learning and care services nationwide.
