Editorial: Child Protection and the 2016 Regulations

The fact that child protection policy fell out of the revised regulations in 2016 is a matter of real concern to ECI. We see this as a matter of best practice, which the early years sector is committed to meeting, and the best interests of children availing of ECEC services. We hope our efforts support the Minister and DCYA in remedying the current legal lacuna and look forward to further constructive engagement.

Affordable Childcare Scheme to be debated in the Oireachtas

Minister Zappone recently presented the Childcare Support Bill before the Houses of the Oireachtas, Dáil Eireann and Seanad Eireann. The Bill, which is a proposal for legislation, aims to provide the statutory basis for the Affordable Childcare Scheme.

Independent Review on the Cost of Providing Quality Childcare

Crowe Horwath are undertaking an independent review on the cost of providing quality childcare on behalf of DCYA. In response to their call for evidence, the initial information gathering part of the review, ECI submitted a variety of studies and reports, both our own and external, which we believe are essential reading to understand the complexities and challenges facing the early childhood care and education sector.

Call for Evidence to Inform an Independent Review of the Cost of Providing Quality Childcare

November 7, 2017

DCYA today announced the first part of the Independent Review of the cost of providing quality childcare: a call for evidence, which will inform subsequent stages of the Independent Review. Following this initial piece of evidence gathering, Crowe Horwath will engage with childcare providers in the form of a survey, interviews, focus groups, and consultation with sector representative bodies and other stakeholders.
