San Miniato’s Approach to the Education of Children. Read More….
This is a book about the under 3’s written by the San Miniato team and translated into English by Early Childhood Ireland. It describes the San Miniato (Italy) approach to being with very young children. It is inspired by Malaguzzi of Reggio fame and his colleague Aldo Fortunati. The book describes the philosophy – the environments – the settling in process – the everyday experiences they make possible for children – the work with children with ‘special rights’ – the partnership with parents – and their processes of observation and documentation. What’s different about the approach is the lens they use – they see the children as the agents or ‘protagonists’ of their own learning and identity. The educators and parents are collaborators with the child. In this book, we meet the rich, competent child rather than the needy child and we see how we can open up a different world for children.
