Making the News: February’s Media Highlights

In the second edition of our new monthly feature, Making the News, we recap our media footprint around key events, including the launch of our Single Agency proposal and the Early Childhood Barometer 2024. In February, Early Childhood Ireland was featured in 12 web articles, 3 printed articles, and across 30 radio stations countrywide, including 7 radio interviews.

Single Agency Policy Proposal

On February 8, we issued a policy proposal outlining the critical need for a Single Agency for the Early Years and School Age Care system. As part of the launch, our Director of Policy Frances Byrne was invited to participate in a national broadcast interview on Newstalk’s Breakfast Briefing programme and featured on the station’s morning news bulletins. Frances also participated in local radio interviews in Wexford and Clare, and our CEO, Teresa Heeney, spoke on Highland Radio.

Early Childhood Ireland Barometer 2024

February 26 saw us release the 7th annual Early Childhood Ireland Barometer 2024, a national opinion poll on public attitudes toward Early Years and School Age Care. We were delighted to secure positive national and regional coverage with 12 print and online articles and 29 radio stations in 24 counties across Ireland reporting on the Barometer findings in their news bulletins throughout the day and beyond. Frances Byrne also spoke on Galway Bay FM’s flagship current affairs programme, Galway Talks with Keith Finnegan, and on East Coast Radio’s Morning Show.

The Irish Times covered the story (available here for subscribers), and there was further national coverage in The Irish Sun and on the popular parenting blogs Magic Mum and Mummy Pages.

Crèches in new housing developments

In February, we were also pleased to participate in an Irish Times article (available here for subscribers) about the ongoing challenges with delivering crèches in new housing developments.
