Early Childhood Ireland is introducing our new monthly feature Making the News, designed to provide updates about media coverage of Early Years and School Age Care issues. Our coverage in January reached a potential 1.8 million people with 40 pieces of coverage across national and local media.
A 5-year plan for Early Years and School Age Care
During the month, we reiterated our call for a coherent 5-year plan to address the issues facing Ireland’s Early Years and School Age Care settings in 2024. We were pleased to see reports from 24 media outlets across 13 counties, demonstrating a keen interest in this topic throughout the country. Coverage extended to counties such as Mayo, Tipperary, Wicklow and Waterford, with our CEO Teresa Heeney taking part in a radio interview in Donegal. Additionally, our Director of Policy Frances Byrne featured on South East Radio’s Morning Mix show and Midwest Radio’s Tommy Marren show.
Closures, Outdoor play, and our annual Barometer
In January, we were delighted to be featured in an Irish Times article (available here for subscribers). This provided us with the opportunity to present our recent Policy Proposal on Closures, outlining a proactive set of measures for the Government to mitigate the effects of potential setting closures.
