Togher Family Centre is a community-based Family Centre in Togher, Cork City. The centre runs a range of services for children between 1-12 years. The service also includes a family support services as well as a range of adult classes and support groups. Togher Family Centre is a progressive organisation committed to providing quality services and interventions to the local community.

Togher Family Centre is currently inviting applications to interview for a position on a panel for Early Years Education Supervisor.

Post: Early Years Supervisor: Part-Time

· Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education (Level 7 or 8)

· Minimum 2 years’ experience in an Early Years setting

EYE Supervisor
Job Description

Main Responsibilities
• Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and
care for children placed in the service
• Provide support to other personnel within the EYE service
• Day to day management of the EYE Service administration

Support for Children
• Coordinate the development of age appropriate curriculum and activities under
guidelines from Aistear & Síolta for children using the pre-school service and ensure
that all necessary preparatory work is carried out in good time
• Follow the Curriculum for Togher Family Centre
• Co-ordinate the evaluation of programmes in the EYE so to better inform planning in
the future and to ensure all children reach their full potential
• Ensure that the health and safety needs of each child are met at all times
• Ensuring a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and
care for children placed in the service
• Attend to the personal, social and emotional needs of individual children together
with any special requirements they may have
• Identify the special needs of children and plan for appropriate interventions either
within the services provided or by other professional people
• Ensure healthy snacks and refreshments are available to children as required
• Create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, which establishes in the children a feeling of
security, confidence and trust

Support for Parents
• Ensure that warm, welcoming and friendly relations with parents are developed,
maintained at all times and reviewed regularly
• Ensure that any information regarding individual children’s needs, interests,
achievements and development within the service is shared with parents on a regular
basis and as soon as possible after first noted
• Develop and encourage parental support, involvement and interest in their child’s
development and the EYE Service

Support for Staff
• Coordinate and support the service staff in the implementation of the TFC
curriculum and activities for the children attending the service
• Support the staff in the recording of observations of the children
• Ensure that staff are given time to update their observations and support staff in
identifying children’s development needs based on their observations
• Provide support to staff on an individual basis through informal and formal
supervision
• Ensure the smooth running of the early years Team by organising team planning
• Assist staff in the identification of training needs and encourage and support staff
undertaking further training
• Ensure that all Staff are aware of their responsibilities regarding health and safety and
maintenance of health and hygiene standards within the EYE Service
• Lead, motivate and encourage the childcare staff team

Support for the Service
• Ensure that the service is being run according to current standards in childcare
regulations
• Maintain and ensure the implementation of Togher Family Centre policies and
procedures
• Ensure the maintenance of records necessary to the service, including the following:
1. All essential background information on children
2. Daily register of attendance for children
3. Attendance, time in lieu and holiday records of childcare staff
4. Observation records of children
5. Food Handling & Preparation
6. Cleaning Schedules
7. Any other records that may be required by Tusla
8. Any other records as may be required by the Centre Manager
• Undertake certain domestic duties within the service preparation of snacks, cleaning
of equipment etc
• Ensure that the storage, cleaning and maintenance of toys, activities and equipment is
maintained to the required standard
• Ensure that routine cleaning tasks are completed throughout the area to the highest
levels of health and hygiene and ensure that any potential health and hygiene risks are
reported to the Centre Manager as soon as observed
• Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, participate in performance
management arrangements and undertake training and development as required
• The Supervisor should supervise students, identifying their learning needs and advise
mentors of these
• Attend meetings and training courses as are necessary to keep up to date with
developments in the area of pre-school and after-school organisation
• Undertake other similar responsibilities that may fall within the requirements of the
post, as directed by the Centre Manager
