What is the Governance Code?

The Governance Code is a standard created by the voluntary sector, for the sector. It is available free to any group which wishes to use it. Full information can be found at www.governancecode.ie.

The Governance Code is relevant to community services with voluntary boards of management. It sets out, by means of a checklist, a range of questions for the Board. The Board should satisfy themselves of the responses to these questions in order to have confidence in their systems and structures, policies and procedures. Voluntarily adopting the Governance Code is the best way to demonstrate an organisation’s commitment to work according to best practice management and operations in their situation.

We would encourage the manager of the community service to attend this information session along with a couple of members of the Board of the service.

The session

The information sessions will lend further support to community services who wish to achieve compliance with the Governance Code. The guest speaker from the Governance Code, Senan Turnbull, will out the principles underpinning the Code and explain the process groups should undertake in order to be compliant. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and interaction during the session.
