Garda Vetting Update 3 December 2019

December 3, 2019

Garda vetting and Registered Providers

Under the re-registration requirements for early years services, the registered provider and person in charge (if different) must submit a copy of their Garda vetting. If the Garda vetting isn’t within the last three years, submit the Garda vetting you currently have, and then resubmit a renewed Garda vetting in 2020.

‘1. Garda vetting/Police vetting for the proposed registered provider and person in charge (if different) your current Garda vetting will be accepted: If it is due for renewal (not renewed in the last three years) please submit in early 2020’.

Updated Re-Registration as of 28th November 2019

Under Garda vetting legislation (Schedule 1 of the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016) ONLY people who do relevant work that involves having regular access and direct contact with children can be Garda vetted:

..‘any work or activity which is carried out by a person, a necessary and regular part of which consists mainly of the person having access to, or contact with, children’.

Our new  Identification Verification Form has space for you to fill in the additional details about the work duties a person performs, so that it is clear that a person has regular contact with, and access to, children.

If the registered provider does not have regular and necessary contact with children, then they cannot be Garda vetted, under Garda vetting legislation and the forms will be returned to you.
