The Garda Vetting Process

1) The NVB1 Vetting Invitation form is filled in by the applicant online and then printed out, signed dated and ticked, before giving it to the owner/manager, with a copy of Photo ID and proof of address.

2) The Identification Verification form requires the owner/manager to write down the type of photographic identification, and the type of proof of address they have on file for the applicant. There is a list of the acceptable documents on the back of the Identification Verification form.
Please ensure the role to be vetted is a Relevant Work activity.

An owner/manager cannot sign their own Identification Verification form – this must be signed by an assistant manager/board member etc or alternatively they can send us in a copy of their photographic and address identification.

3) Please check that the applicant has correctly filled in their Vetting Invitation form, including the correct email address, and that it is legible (if handwritten). Then post these two forms to us at :

4) Once you have sent the two Garda vetting forms into us for an applicant, you should then receive an email from Early Childhood Ireland, stating that the applicant has been sent a link from the National Vetting Bureau (NVB).

At this point it is recommended that you contact the potential employee to see if they have received the link from the NVB. If they have not received the link, check their email address and that it hasn’t gone into their junk mail. Then contact us to check the correct email address is in the system. If it needs amending, we can then change this, and another link will be resent to the applicant.

5) Re-vetting is the same process as above and is only required every 3 years for employees.

Garda National Vetting Bureau (GNVB) Affiliation Registration Number

The Garda National Vetting Bureau (GNVB) Affiliation Registration Number will soon be compulsory in order to process Garda vetting applications. Every individual early childhood setting and afterschool provider will need their own unique GNVB Affiliate Number so please apply now if you haven’t already.

How do I apply for a GNVB Affiliate Registration Number?

  1. Please email the Garda vetting bureau at requesting a  GNVB Affiliate Registration Number and giving the following information:
  • Early Childhood Ireland Membership Number
  • Name and business address of your organisation
  • Contact person within the organisation
  • The nature of your business e.g. early childhood service; afterschool setting

*Multiple Services – This process must be completed for each individual membership number as each service needs their own GNVB Affiliate Registration Number.

  1. The Garda Vetting Bureau will then post you an application form which you fill in and return to them.
  2. Once you have sent them the completed form, they will then issue you with your GNVB Affiliate Registration Number. This could take up to 2 weeks.
  3. When you receive your GNVB Affiliate Registration Number please email us with this number at or phone 01 405 7102. Please note that the letter you receive from the bureau with your GNVB number will state that you will need to re-vet all your staff, this is not necessary unless the vetting on file is thee years old or older.
