The Garda Vetting Process

We will continue to process Garda vetting applications as normal by post during the new 6 week Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.

Please ensure there are 2 forms for every Garda vetting application –

1) a Vetting Invitation Form NVB1 completed by the applicant, and

2) an  Identification Verification Form completed by the owner/ manager.

Both forms must be posted to Early Childhood Ireland:

Garda Vetting,  Early Childhood Ireland, Hainault House, Belgard Square South,
Tallaght, Dublin, D24 RFV0

*Please note that it is not necessary to send copies of the identity verification documentation unless it is the owner/manager applying for vetting for themselves.

A link will then be sent to the vetting applicant from the National Vetting Bureau asking them to complete an online application for Garda vetting. This link is valid for 30 days.

An email will also be sent to the owner manager of the early learning and care setting from Early Childhood Ireland, informing them that the applicant has been sent a link from the National Vetting Bureau, and it will include the Garda vetting application ID number.

**At this point we would encourage the owner manager to check with the vetting applicant to ensure they received and completed the link from the National Vetting Bureau. If the potential employee has not received the link, check their email address and then contact us on 01 405 7102, to check the correct email address is in the system. If it needs amending, we can then change this and another link will be resent to the applicant.

How long does Garda vetting take?

Eighty per cent of Garda vetting applications will be completed within 5 to 10 working days. Twenty per cent of applications will require more time. Any applicants who have lived in Northern Ireland will take longer as they have to go through the PSNI.

Tracking an Application

Once the applicant has clicked on the link sent to them from the NVB and inputted all the information required, they can then trace the status of their application through the National Vetting Bureau website: and entering the reference number assigned to them. This will start with ECI001-20—– and their date of birth.

The owner/manager of the setting also receives this information at the bottom of the email notification they receive, so they can also track the application. Make sure there are no spaces put in before or after the application ID number as it may not work.
