Garda Vetting Update 18 August 2020

Garda vetting applications

Due to a very high volume of Garda vetting applications, there may be a slight delay in Garda vetting processing times.

Please ensure there are 2 forms for every Garda Vetting Application – a Vetting Invitation Form NVB1 completed by the applicant, and an Identification Verification Form completed by the owner/ manager.

Both forms must be sent together to Early Childhood Ireland’s office:
Garda Vetting,
Early Childhood Ireland,
Unit 12c Hainault House,
Belgard Square South,
Dublin, D24 RFV0
(Please note that it is not necessary to send copies of the identity verification documentation unless it is the Owner/Manager applying for Vetting for themselves.)

Tracking an application

Once an applicant has submitted their information to the National Vetting Bureau, they can track their application by entering their application ID (the long number starting with ECI001-2………) and their date of birth, on the  An Garda Síochána webpage.

The owner/manager of the service also receives this information at the bottom of the email notification they receive, so they can also track the application. Make sure there are no spaces put in before or after the application ID number as it may not work.

GNVB Affiliate Registration Number

It will soon become compulsory for each Early Learning and Care and School Age Childcare setting to have their own unique Garda National Vetting Bureau Affiliate Registration Number (GNVB number), in order to access Garda Vetting for staff.

If you have already obtained a GNVB Affiliate Registration Number for your service but have not informed us directly, please email [email protected] with the 2 pages of the letter from the Garda Vetting Bureau confirming your GNVB number. Please also quote your membership number on the email.

If you need to apply for your GNVB Affiliate Registration Number, please follow the process outlined below:

  1. Please email the Garda vetting bureau at [email protected] requesting a GNVB Affiliate Registration Number and giving the following information:
  • Early Childhood Ireland Membership Number
  • Name and address of the early learning and care or school age childcare setting
  • Contact person within the organisation
  • The nature of your business e.g. early learning and care setting providing education and care for children.

*Multiple Settings – This process must be completed for each individual ECI membership number and the corresponding address of the early learning and care or school age childcare setting.

  1. The Garda Vetting Bureau will then post you an application form which you fill in and return to them.
  2. Once you have sent them the completed form, they will then issue you with a letter confirming your GNVB Affiliate Registration Number. This could take up to 2 weeks.
  3. When you receive your GNVB Affiliate Registration Number letter, please email [email protected] with the 2 pages of the letter. Please also quote your Early Childhood Ireland membership number on the email.
  4. It will state on your GNVB letter to re-vet your staff. This is only necessary if your staff member has not been vetted in the last 3 years.
