What Garda vetting do I need to submit with my Re-registration application?

As part of the registration and renewal of registration process, Tusla require up to date Garda vetting for registered providers, persons in charge and or Boards of management* who have regular access and contact with children as part of their role and function. The vetting must be within the last three years at the date of application.

To ensure you have the above in time, please send your Garda vetting applications in to us here in Early Childhood Ireland as soon as possible. This is a free benefit to members of Early Childhood Ireland.

Please use our most recent Identification Verification form and the Vetting Invitation form and send them in to us at Early Childhood Ireland, Hainault House, Belgard Square South, Tallaght, D24 RFV0.

 * Only people whose work involves necessary and/or regular access to, or contact with, children or vulnerable persons, should be Garda vetted under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012.

In the recent Tusla newsletter, Tusla recommend that the registered provider/chairperson should satisfy themselves that their service is well managed and running properly and suggest that as part of their duties they should visit the service during working hours. These duties can be listed on the new Early Childhood Ireland Identification Verification form.


I can’t get Garda vetting for Board of Management (BOM) members, what should I do?

We accept that the current legislation does not include the vetting of those who are not engaged in relevant work or do not have contact or access to children. We would expect that Chairpersons are vetted in order to assure themselves that the services are operating to the highest of standards. Whilst Garda vetting may not be obtainable, members of BOM’s should have reference checks to confirm their suitability to be part of a children’s service. The registration process requires supply of an affidavit to demonstrate the structures of the BOM and a declaration that the members do not have access to children.
