Garda Vetting Update 12 July 2022
The new Garda vetting process with Early Childhood Ireland is outlined below.
Please remember to keep the NVB1 vetting invitation, the copy of photo identification and the copy of proof of address in the employee file. You can add the completed Garda vetting to the file when it comes through.
Eighty per cent of Garda Vetting applications take 7 – 10 working days from when the applicant completes the link sent to them by the National Vetting Bureau. Twenty per cent of applications take longer due to further checks by various agencies.
When entering the applicants’ information into the online vetting form, please ensure that the email address and date of birth are correct as the applicant won’t be able to access and complete the link from the National Vetting Bureau if they are wrong.
The Garda Vetting Process

The applicant manually fills out the NVB1 Vetting Invitation Form and provides a copy of photo identification and proof of address to the owner /manager, who keeps the three documents in a secure employee file. |
| Step 2 Input to ECI website |
The owner/manager verifies the applicants’ identification and then inputs the information from the NVB1 Vetting Information into the ECI Garda Vetting online application form. |
| Step 3 NVB send link |
ECI uploads the Garda Vetting application into the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) Vetting portal. NVB reviews the application and emails the applicant a link inviting them to complete their vetting application Form. |
| Step 4 Garda Vetting disclosure |
The National Vetting Bureau processes the application and forwards a vetting disclosure to ECI. |
| Step 5 ECI forward disclosure |
ECI sends the vetting disclosure to the owner/manager, who prints it out and adds it to the employee file. |
