Updated Processing Times
Garda Vetting remains a vital safeguard for children, but processing times have increased. Please factor these timelines into recruitment and re-vetting planning:
Standard applications:
- 18–20 working days (previously shorter)
Note: Around 20% may take longer, especially if an applicant’s details are entered incorrectly
Applications with EU address history:
- Add up to 10 extra working days
Total: approx. 28–30 working days
Applications with UK address history:
- Add up to 20 extra working days Total: approx. 38–40 working days
Important: These timelines start after the NVB link is correctly completed and submitted.
Why Are Timelines Longer?
Since 7 July 2025, enhanced checks under EU Directive 2011/93 require additional verification through the European Criminal Records Information System (ECRIS). This only applies to applicants who have lived in the EU or UK.
Police Clearance Certificates are still required for applicants who lived abroad for 6+ months, and re-vetting follows the same timelines as new applications.
Important – No Fast-Tracking Requests
The National Vetting Bureau does not offer fast-tracking. Applications are processed strictly in chronological order.
Early Childhood Ireland is not responsible for changes in processing times. We cannot prioritise or fast-track vetting applications.
