Governance and Funding

Governance and Funding

In 2022, we invested over €3 million, and our work supported more than 150,000 children from over 4,000 Early Years and School Age Care settings.

Thanks to the trust and funding we received from our donors, we have delivered transformational programmes that make a real and lasting impact in the lives of children and their families, as well as in the Early Years and School Age Care sector.

Governance

Early Childhood Ireland is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Early Childhood Ireland is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Each Director has a variety of relevant skills that they bring to their role on the Board. The Board of Directors is committed to achieving and maintaining the highest standards of governance.

Early Childhood Ireland’s Board has formally adopted the Charities Governance Code as devised by the Charities Regulator. The Board ensured compliance with the new Code in November 2019 in advance of the deadline of January 2020.

In addition, Early Childhood Ireland complies with the:

  • Charities Act 2009
  • Data Sharing and Governance Act 2019

Early Childhood Ireland is registered as a lobbyist, and we provide all of the required returns about our extensive engagement with policy makers according to the relevant legislation.

Annual and Financial Reporting

Early Childhood Ireland prepares annual reports and financial statements and makes them available to the public on our website. Our reports are externally and independently audited.

Early Childhood Ireland is compliant with the Charity Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP FRS 102) which sets out how charities should prepare their annual accounts and report on their finances. SORP is an interpretation of the underlying financial reporting standards and generally accepted accounting practice. Although not obliged to comply with the Charities SORP, Early Childhood Ireland has implemented all relevant SORP recommendations.
