Early Childhood Ireland Go Recycle Campaign

Early Childhood Ireland is delighted to announce the Go Recycle Battery Campaign.

Early Childhood Ireland has teamed up with The European Recycling Platform (ERP), Ireland’s only pan-European compliance scheme for electronic waste and waste battery recycling, to highlight the importance of recycling in the early years sector and launch a recycling campaign.

Household batteries, such as those in your watches, Tv remotes or battery operated toys, contain heavy metals which can be harmful to the environment. If we put them in with our household refuse they will go to landfill and release substances such as nickel, cadmium or lead. ERP collect, treat and recycle used batteries responsibly to protect our planet. In this campaign, Children along with Parents will be encouraged to bring in used batteries and deposit them into the battery boxes.

One of the key objectives of this initiative is to drive awareness and promote positive behavioural change and what a better time to start than at pre-school! With the help of Captain Recycle and Miss Positive, the campaign aims to encourage children to collect used batteries and learn about how recycling helps the Environment through engaging in the Go Recycle educational activity pack .

This campaign is open to Early Childhood Ireland Childcare Services based in the following areas:

Cavan, Clare, Fingal, Louth, Kerry, Limerick, Meath and Monaghan as these are the areas that ERP operates in*.

Register below now!!

Fill out the Registration Form below now to start the recycling fun in your service.

If your service is in the catchment area and you have not received a pre-school pack you can contact the operations team on 0818 332 757.

*If your facility lies outside of these regions and you would like to start recycling old batteries, you can visit ERP’s website to locate your nearest recycling centre or return your used batteries to your local retailer for recycling free of charge.

How does it work?

Children bring in used batteries and collect in the Go Recycle boxes sent out. When the boxes are full, simply contact the ERP Operations team on 0818 332 757 and they will arrange for it to be collected. ERP will track the amount of batteries collected from each service and the winner will be the service who collects the most batteries per head at the end of the Campaign.
