Play and Learning with Young Children

The aim of this course is to explore from a practical perspective, the value of play in the lives of children from birth to 5 years and the ways adults can support this play.  In exploring play, participants will engage in a range of workshops including paint, playdough and junk art materials.

  • Exploring different types and stages of Play

  • Treasure baskets, Heuristic play and small world play

  • How to create play spaces, indoor and outdoor

  • The importance of relationships in the lives of Young Children

  • Understanding Young Children’s behaviour

  • Listening to and talking with children

  • How routines support development

  • Workshops on: Paint, play-dough, sand, water, messy play, music, movement, storytelling and the use of everyday materials

How is the Course Delivered?

The course is delivered by Early Childhood Ireland tutors who are trained in adult education and have extensive experience in working with young children.  The adult teaching methods used through the course include:

  • small/large group work

  • workshops

  • discussions

  • experiential learning

Emphasis is placed on creating a relaxed atmosphere where participants can explore children’s play, learning and development.  A Certificate of Attendance will be provided by Early Childhood Ireland.

 

Duration

The duration of the course is 20 hours which can be delivered flexibly to suit the needs of the group.
