National Pyjama Day 2014

Thank you very much to those of you who registered for National Pyjama Day 2014 – we were overwhelmed by the response of early childhood providers this year. Registrations increased by 100%,so thank you for your generosity and we hope you had a wonderful National Pyjama Day! So far you have helped to raise €221,000! Thank you also for sending in photos showing us what a great day you had!

A message from Sharon Foley -CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation

“We are delighted with the amazing support for National Pyjama Day again this year. Record numbers of children wearing their pyjamas to help those who are seriously ill is an incredibly powerful image.

Over the past four years, National Pyjama Day has helped fund five nurses around the country and a national paediatric palliative care consultant.  By taking part, you have supported very sick children and their families all over Ireland.

I would like to sincerely thank all the childcare staff, the children and their parents for such fantastic support. Every donation is vital as the IHF is funding 85% of the National Paediatric Palliative Care Programme.

I would encourage services to return their money by Friday, June 20th.  The sooner we receive the proceeds from National Pyjama Day, the sooner we can put your money to good use.  I would like to acknowledge and pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of Early Childhood Ireland in making National Pyjama Day a success over the past 11 years and I wish you continued success in the future.”

Early Childhood Ireland are delighted to coordinate this national annual event which gives positive visibility to the early childhood care and education sector who continue to support National Pyjama  day at a time when there are increasing stresses in the sector. Last year over 1200 childcare services took part in National Pyjama Day.

It is great to know that monies raised by National Pyjama Day has helped to fund five regional pyjama day nurses. In order to maintain this service to children and families we hope that you will take part in National Pyjama Day 2014.

I hope that you will support National Pyjama Day in 2014 and help us to further build on the fantastic fundraising efforts of the past ten years in the knowledge that your generosity will help to ensure that families of children with life-limiting illness will have the opportunity to have their home as the place of care, and ultimately of passing for their child.

Message from Sharon Foley, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation:

I wanted to come back personally to say that it is a privilege for myself as CEO and for all in the Irish Hospice Foundation to be associated with the Early Childhood Ireland Pyjama Day. The funds that you have raised for us – over €700k – have been used well and are having an impact.

Thanks to you we have implemented our Hospice Homecare for Children programme and now have Ireland’s first (and only) Consultant Paediatrician with a Special Interest in Paediatric Palliative Care and 8 Outreach nurses working with children – with 5 funded by IHF. We have a wide programme for children facing the end of their lives, which reaches out to families in their own homes.
